Glenn and Christina Whitney operate a delightful roadside produce stand that offers some special home-made delicacies like smoothies, milkshakes, assorted breads, strawberry jam, sauces, salsa, wheat grass shots, fresh fruits and vegetables, plus home-made Key Lime pies and slices. The family has called the area home for more that 50 years. Glenn Maddaford Whitney is no stranger to hard work and great entrepreneur actions. Born and raised in Cutler Ridge (Bay) along with 3 brothers and 2 sisters, he had no problem taking on tasks that involved long hours and hard work.
From a very young age Glenn ventured into various positions to include operating his own local lawn service; working at a nearby restaurant washing dishes and becoming an expert at tossing and making a good pizza. Who would have known this would further lead to owning and working in his own restaurants. Still, with all that success and following he strove for more. Glenn’s love for Race Car Driving became a real life experience starting at a beginner’s level and ending up as a long standing Title holder for the Florida Pro Series. He is still talked about respectfully in the racing world today.
Frances Maddaford Whitney, a graduate of Julliard School of Music who opened the Dade County Miami Beach Band Shell with as the starring role in Carmen in 1953; was determined to make the most of the time for her children, even as their father Colonel Robert Whitney, USMC was called to duty and traveled most of the calendared school years. Frances kept all the Whitney children actively involved in Church activities; sports; music; voice; instrument; dance; acting; baseball; football; golf; swimming; lawn mowing jobs; paper routes; cotillion lessons; horseback riding; tennis... to name a few. The fact that Colonel and Frances Whitney were co-founders of St. Faith’s Episcopal Church and Frances the Choir director also rendered to be a great outlet of constant activity for the family and their friends. Frances; like Glenn was always on the go; creating new avenues for great activities; knowing each day was to be lived to the fullest and that nothing was or is more important than family. With this in mind it’s of no surprise that not too long ago, Glenn and his wife Chris decided they needed Glenn and his wife now operate what could very well be the Redlands next best place to be for great local and homegrown farm fresh produce. Whitney’s is remarkably welcoming. It’s set in a lush tropical location that quietly expresses personal touches of Glenn and Chris’s creativity along with a sense of loving inputs from their families past and present. Whitney’s following is both local and long distance and the buzz is Whitney’s is great! We love it here because we always feel so welcome! And not unexpected with all Glenn’s creativeness are his specialties: Key Lime Pie; Banana Bread; Salsa; Spaghetti sauce which are rumored to be “better than any other.”
Glenn and Chris’s hope is to support their family, the local farmers and growers, the hard working families and community surrounding their marketplace. Stop in and see them soon and enjoy this little patch of paradise in the Redland Region |
