| It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Romp Through The Countryside
Robert Burr and Dade Heritage Trust will sponsor the next Redland Riot Road Rallye, a mad-capped adventure for treasure on Saturday, January 19.
This is a free event for car enthusiasts, tropical fruit lovers, history buffs and anyone who enjoys a leisurely drive through rural South Miami-Dade County -- Miami's Bountiful Countryside.
We gather at Cauley Square Saturday morning to begin. Print your own free map of the route with driving directions. We'll provide each registered team with a set of instructions and cryptic questions to answer. Any car, truck, motorcycle, or street-legal vehicle can participate.
This rallye is not a race. It's a team-based competition. Each car is a registered team. At the registration desk, each team receives a set of questions and maps, then starts off on their fruity tropical adventure.
The route is well planned -- each stop is of historical interest. Our crew have prepared a series of questions to be answered along which can be found by observation at the scheduled stops. The winning team will be the one with the most correct answers.
Rallye participants are encouraged to enjoy the stops along the way and collect some delicious goodies, including fresh produce, exotic fruits and home-made delicacies. Bring along some cash for hot sticky buns right out of the oven, delicious tropical fruit milkshakes, award-winning orchids, tropical fruit wine, fresh ripe strawberries, etc.
The Big Finish At Schnebly Redland's Winery
At 5pm, at Schnebly Redland's Winery, all road rallye teams will gather for the big finish.
Enjoy this wonderland of tiki huts and waterfalls, the perfect setting to relax and reflect on the bounty of the Redland Region.
All rallye articipants receive free entrance ($10 value) to the Saturday Night At The Winery Event with live music, delicious refreshments and good food. At 6:15pm, we will announce the winner and give away a prize package of gifts and gift certificates worth less than one million dollars -- and the bragging rights as winner of the 2013 Redland Riot Road Rallye.
Tips and Suggestions
A few words of advice for your rallye survival guide...
Bring a small cooler to keep your strawberries fresh and cool. Unlike the grocery store, the fresh fruits and veggies you'll get along the way were not picked while green and allowed to ripen in a truck or warehouse. They're picked fresh and ready to be consumed right away.
Bring along some cash. While you can get almost anything you want online with a credit card or PayPal, a visit to the countryside is a return to simple ways and old-time methods of payment in some cases.
Be observant. Redland Riot Road Rallye clues are almost always in plain sight -- on a sign, a product, a label, an image or a poster -- if you're paying attention.
Enjoy the slower pace of the Redland region. Take your time -- it's not a race. Have a few bites along the way and stop for lunch or a healthy bite at one of the many wonderful venues you'll pass. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Have fun. The road rallye is all about having fun with friends. Whether you're crowned the winner, or come in dead last, you can enjoy a wacky good time with plenty of goodies, visiting fun places with nice people at every turn.
Register for $10 per car team at the event.
Please arrive at Cauley Square (US1 and SW 224 Street) between 10am and 11am on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
The cost is $10 cash per car team at Cauley Square the morning of the event. We cannot guarantee late arrivals will be able to participate if we run out of maps and question packets.
The answers will be found along the route. Your answers must be turned in before 5pm at Schnebly Redland Winery.
The team with the most right answers wins the rally and the gift certificates.
